Give me a thumbs up!

Follow the rules and keep it a thumbs up day!

Lindsy was our star of the week!  She is a star because she likes to help others!

IMPORTANT!!!

Thursday, September 28: Early Dismissal Day A.M. kindergarten will attend and will be dismissed at 12:00.  They will be riding on their number bus.  Yay! An extra half hour with my kindergartners!

The kindergartners brought home a sound book.  Please have them read the book to you.  They also brought home a bag with letters, pictures and words.  Please practice sorting the words, pictures and letters into groups.

The children will also be bringing home their behavior chart.  This is a great tool for me and for you to keep communication lines open.  If they earned 5 green checks then they received a sticker.  If you see a yellow check, that means that your child is working on a certain classroom expectation.  I will note it in the comments section.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Thank you to those of you who turned in magazine orders!

This week the kindergartners practiced being quick and quiet during a lockdown.  They all did a great job walking quickly and quietly to our hiding place!  Please talk to your child about the importance of being quiet during an emergency.

This week the kindergartners worked on predicting and sequencing.  We read teh book I Went Walking and predicted what animal we saw next.  They also named the animals in the order we saw them.  First we saw the black cat.  Next, we saw the brown horse.  Last, we saw the pink pig.  Then, as a class, we wrote a short class story called We Went Walking in School.  (ex. I saw a teacher in school).  We highlighted the popcorn words "I" and "in".  The kindergartners made a class book called We Went Walking.   They will have an opportunity next week to read their wonderful class book!  We also read the story Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. We predicted and noted the color words in the story.

Also, in reading the children practiced EEKK (reading to a friend).  Ask your child about what EEKK is.

The kindergartners also worked hard on the letters "ck" and "e".  The sound of c adn k is made like castanets.  E is the sound you make when cracking and e-e-egg.  Please reinforce these sounds at home.

In math, we continued sorting objects into groups according to color, shape and size.  Sort things at home and have your child guess how you sorted the items.  We like doing this at school!  We also counted by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's.  We also had to guess the missing number.  For example _, 5, 6.  What number is missing.  We also sequenced and tallied numbers to 20.  Please practice this skills with you son or daughter at home.

Have a good weekend!
