Week of May 18- May 22

READING: Next week we will be reading a story called The School Mural. It is a story about a girl named Mei Lee. Mei Lee and her class make a mural to celebrate their school’s semi-centennial.
Comprehension Strategy: Problem Solving

Phonics: Base Words with –ed, -ing endings (drop final e)Grammar: adjectives

Vocabulary Words: neighbor, below, should, event, mural, pride, project, scene, sketches

Spelling Words: Words with –ed and –ing endings (drop final e add –ed or –ing)


MATH: We will be moving very quickly in math the next few weeks. We finished our chapter on patterns. We will be covering measurement (ex. inches, feet, yards, centimeters and meters), perimeter and area. We will also be covering volume (ex. cups, liters, pints). Depending on how well the children understand, we may also cover fractions.
We will also be taking a mad minute every day.

Science: We will review our chapter on sound and take the chapter test. We will also begin our chapter on motion.

HANDWRITING: We will continue to work on uppercase letters. We will be using cursive writing in our ABC journals. Please encourage your child to sit properly and to work carefully on handwriting homework. Thank you!
