Week of May 11-May 15

READING: Next week we will be reading a story called Moses Goes to a Concert. It is a story about a deaf boy who goes to a concert with his classmates.
Comprehension Strategy: Noting detail and summarizing

Phonics: Long i spelled igh and ie

Vocabulary Words: heart, mind, alphabet, deaf, hearing, instruments, percussion, signs vibration

Spelling Words: Words with the long i sound spelled igh, ie, i and y.


MATH: We will be moving very quickly in math the next few weeks. We finished Chapter 15 and took our test on Friday. We will cover a chapter a week. If you feel that your child is struggling with a certain concept, please contact me as soon as possible.
The next chapter, Chapter 16, covers patterns.
We will also be taking a mad minute every day.
The children have a chance to challenge themselves with “math mania”, salmon pages or gold pages. Look to see if your child has taken the challenge!

Science: We will continue to work on Unit F. We will learn about how sound is made.

HANDWRITING: We will continue to work on uppercase letters. We will be using cursive writing in our ABC journals. Please encourage your child to sit properly and to work carefully on handwriting homework. Thank you!
