Week of March 23-March 27

READING: Next week we will read a story called Carousel. It is a story about a girl named Alex. Alex’s father misses her birthday party, and everything is spoiled until the animals on his gift of a tiny carousel come to life in a dream.
Comprehension Skills: Making Judgments
Grammar Skill: verbs and adjectives (feeling words)
Phonics: sound of “Y” at the end of longer words and the prefix un-.
Vocabulary Words: pair, million, aunt, frothy, fussed, angry, grumpily, trot, tutu, groaned, promised, mane

SPELLING: Next week’s words will include words that have the long e sound at the end of the word spelled with “y”.

MATH: We will finish Chapter 12 next week and we will take the test on Friday. Please keep practicing counting money with your child as well as practicing math facts.

Science: We will begin a new Unit on Energy and Motion. We will not finish the unit until we get back from Spring Break.

HANDWRITING: This week we will be reviewing letters and focusing on the letter “z” and review all the lowercase cursive letters. We will start uppercase letters after break. Please encourage your child to sit properly and to work carefully on handwriting homework. Thank you!
