January 26-January 30

READING: Next week we will be reading a photo essay about different kinds of ants that are found throughout the world.
Comprehension Skills: Fact/Opinion, Cause/Effect and Questioning
Grammar Skill: Singular possessive nouns
Phonics: Base words and noun endings
Vocabulary Words: antennae, cocoons, colonies, fungus, larvae, tunnels, between, weigh, and care.

SPELLING: Next week’s words will include words that have the nd, ng, or nk endings. It will also include vocabulary words from this week’s story.

MATH: We will begin our Chapter on Data and Graphs. The children will be able to problem solve using a table, read and make a graph, and understand pictographs. Please keep practicing addition/subtraction facts with your second grader.

SCIENCE: We learned about fossils and how they form. We will be finishing our Chapter on Exploring Earth’s surface. Our test is scheduled for next week. Please look for a study guide, science worksheets and science book. SCIENCE BOOKS NEED TO BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL!

HANDWRITING: We started cursive writing. We will be focusing on the letters “e”, “l” and “b”.
