February 2- February 6


READING: Next week we will read a fable about how the birds and the animals play ball to decide who is better. The birds don’t allow the bat on their team but, by the end of the story they learn a valuable lesson and they lose the game!
Comprehension Skills: Summarizing, cause/effect, compare/contrast
Grammar Skill: Plural possessive nouns
Phonics: vowel pairs oa and ow
Vocabulary Words: field, ago, war, half, accept, advantage, penalty, argument, quarrel

SPELLING: Next week’s words will include words that have long “o” vowel sound. It will also include vocabulary words from this week’s story.


MATH: We will finish Chapter 9 this week. Our test is scheduled for Friday. Please keep practicing addition/subtraction facts with your second grader.

SCIENCE: We will continue working on Chapter 6 in Science. We will be learning about natural resources and ways we can preserve them. This is a short chapter. Our chapter test is scheduled for Thursday. SCIENCE BOOKS and FOLDERS need to be returned to school.

HANDWRITING: This week we will be focusing on the letters “h”, “f” and “k”. I will be sending home extra practice for homework. Please encourage your child to sit properly and to work carefully. Thank you!
