Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I have a dream....!!
READING: Next week we will be reading a humorous fictional story about a policeman who loves to give safety tips to school children but, nobody every listens…until he brings a dog named Gloria.
Comprehension Skills: Monitoring/Clarifying, drawing conclusions, fantasy and realism and cause/effect.
Grammar Skill: words for nouns (pronouns)
Phonics: r-controlled vowel (ar, or, ore) and common syllables –tion and -ture
Vocabulary Words: board, listen, told, accident, attention, audience, commands, officer, safety

SPELLING: This week’s spelling words will include words with the controlled-r sound like in the word car.

MATH: We will finish our Chapter on double digit subtraction, next week. Our test will be Thursday. We will begin our chapter on tables and graphs the following week. Please keep practicing subtracting facts with your second grader. Many of the children’s errors are computation errors.

SCIENCE: We were scientists for the week! We worked on two experiments. One showed us how rocks can change and the other showed us that some minerals are harder than others. Ask your child about their experiments! We will be finishing our Chapter on Exploring Earth’s surface. Our test is scheduled for next week. Please look for a study guide, science worksheets and science book. SCIENCE BOOKS NEED TO BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL!

HANDWRITING: We started cursive writing. We will be focusing on the letters “i” and “t”.
