November 24-December 5

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Gobble! Gobble!

We will be working on a special Thanksgiving project. We will also write a Thanksgiving Cinquain for your child to share at your Thanksgiving celebration!!

READING: For the week of Dec. 1- Dec. 5, we will be reading a selection called The Firehouse. It is about a boy named David who visits a firehouse with his class. At the firehouse, they see different fire trucks and even help wash one!

We will be working on the following comprehension strategies: questioning, sequence of events and making generalizations.

Vocabulary Words: chief, emergencies, firefighters, dispatch, fire engine, gear, clothes, guess and order.

Phonics: vowel pairs ai and ay and a review of consonant digraphs th, wh, sh, & ch.

Grammar: Special Nouns

Spelling: The spelling words for the week of Dec. 1 will go along with our story selection The Firehouse.

MATH: We started Chapter 6 which involves adding two digit numbers. The children, overall, are doing very well with the concept of regrouping when necessary. The only errors I am finding are math fact errors; therefore, I am encouraging you to continue practicing math facts at home with your child. We will, also, work on rounding to estimate a sum of two digit numbers.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: We finished Chapter 2 in Science and we took our test on Friday. Overall, the children did a good job. We will continue to work on our Animal Unit as well as continue to work on our Unit 5 on Early Americans.
