Comprehension Strategies: We will be reviewing strategies such as questioning what we read in stories and comparing and contrasting parts of stories.

Phonics
We will focus on vowel pairs oy, oi, aw, au and words that have the suffixes -ful, -ly, and -y.

Spelling

This week's spelling words are:

point moist destroy only enough

Math: This week we continued working on Chapter 11. The children are learning how to add greater numbers by using different strategies (counting on, using 10 and doubles). All these strategies will help your first grader add quickly and accurately. Please practice math facts, up to 18, with your child at home. A great website for this is aaamath.com.

Chicks, Chicks, Chicks!!

On Wednesday, Mrs. Fish, a District 66 parent and "Chick Eggspert", will be visiting our school to talk to the first graders about chicks, hens and roosters. To show our appreciation we would like to present her with a gift certificate. If you have not sent in $1-$2 and would like to, please send it to school in an envelope marked with your child's name and "Mrs. Fish" by Monday. Thank you to those of you have sent it in already!
