We will be working with adding and subtracting numbers to 18. The children will understand how addition and subtraction are related and using number sentences using mathematical symbols.

Chicks, Chicks, Chicks!!
The chicks were put into our classroom incubator on Wednesday, April 16. The students were taught that the temperature of the incubator must be at 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit and we compared the incubator to the mother hen. We studied the parts of the egg and the parts of a chicken. We compared and contrasted the hen and the rooster. We know that the hen and rooster are a kind, or breed, of chicken. Ask your child to tell you some differences.
FYI
Thank you to Mrs. Soderholm, Mrs. Panko, and Mrs. Crandell for helping with our Plaster of Paris project. The chicks look "egg"ceptional!! Thank you to all who donated egg shells for the project.
Thank you to all who donated to "Adopt-A-Rain forest"!
In the upcoming weeks, Mrs. Fish, a District 66 parent who has chickens on her property, will be here at Elizabeth Ide to teach the children about hens, roosters and chicks. She will be bringing in chickens that were from our first grade unit last year. We all feel very lucky to have such an "egg" spert come and visit our school and share her time and knowledge with us. We would like to ask each child to bring in $1-$2 so we can get her a gift certificate to thank her for sharing her time and knowledge with us!! Thanks so much for your support!
Don't forget! The 1st grade poster project is due Monday, April 21st.
