Week of April 14- April 18

Author of the Month: Mary Jane Auch

Pillar of the Month: Citizenship The children are encouraged to wear purple!!

Reading: We will not be introducing a new reading theme this week.

Chick Unit: We began our Chick Unit with enthusiasm!! This first week we focused, specifically, on eggs. We read a book about animals that hatch from an egg. Ask your child what "oviparous" means. We also cracked open an egg and learned the different parts of an egg (chalaza, albumen, air cell, membrane, etc.). We also predicted then observed the effects water, salt and vinegar have on a raw egg. We have been busy scientists!!

1st Grade Poster Project: Please be sure to look in your child's Home Folder for information regarding our poster project. Please note the due date!!

Math: We will continue to work on telling time to the hour, half hour as well as counting by 5's to tell more specific time. We also worked on being able to read a schedule and to read a calendar. We will be finishing Chapter 5 and we will be taking our test this week. Keep reinforcing time at home.
