Character Counts!! We will be celebrating our pillar of the month on Fridays! This month we are celebrating “Caring”, so be sure your second grader wears red on Fridays!
Good Behavior Jar!
We celebrated filling our Good Behavior Jar last Friday! We watched The Chipmunks Christmas and ate popcorn, cheese puffs, pretzels and animals crackers. We washed it all down with Hawaiian Punch!! Thanks to Kaitlyn for the popcorn and to Dylan for the movie!!
Math: We will continue working on Chapter 5 this week. We will be using tens to estimate and regrouping ones as tens. The children will also use models and pictures to add two digit numbers. We will finish off the week with problem solving strategies and looking for number patterns. Please be sure your child practices his/her math facts. We take our “mad minute” every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Spelling: Our spelling list this week goes along with our reading selection. It includes words with the long “a” sound.
Reading/Language Arts: Our next reading selection is called A Trip to the Firehouse. We will be focusing on reading fluently, proper nouns and compound words. The children will also finish writing their persuasive letter.
Science: We will continue to work on Chapter 1. We will be learning how plants are alike and different. The children should be able to tell the difference between the leaves on a pine tree, an oak tree and a cactus. We will finish chapter 3 this week. We will review on Thursday and take our test Friday. Please look for a vocabulary and chapter review sheet.
