We're not monkeying around in kindergarten!

What we've been up to...

Wow, first week of school is over!  The children did a great job with coming up with rules for our classroom and learning our classroom routines.  The children also learned all of our school and classroom expectations through a program called PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support).  They were taught to Be Responsible, to Be Respectful and to Be Safe in school.  Ask your child about the different ways they can do this and how they can earn PAWS!  The children also visited the library for the first time and checked out a book.  Their book is due back on Wednesday.
READING: Compare and Contrast
We read the story Now I Am Big and we compared and contrasted the vocabulary words "big" and "little". We also read the story Mice Squeak! We Speak! and we compared and contrasted the different ways animals express themselves.  We also learned our first two sounds, s & a.  Ask your child what the movement is for those two sounds (sss-draw a snake in the air and aaa-ants crawling up your arm).  We also talked about how the letter a can be both a sound and a letter.  This word is one of our "popcorn" words.  Words like a keeping "popping" up everywhere! Please reinforce these concepts at home!
