Math: We will be starting a new chapter in math this week. The children will be able to understand and identify the tens and ones place values. Using this understanding, they will be able to regroup ones as tens and using different ways to show numbers. Please be sure your child practices his/her math facts. We take our “mad minute” every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Spelling: This week’s spelling will be words that are frequently misspelled. Please be sure that your child writes his/her name on the papers and staples them to the blue sheet, if possible. Thank you!
Reading/Language Arts: We will be participating in a Writer’s Workshop this week. The children will be writing a descriptive paragraph using complete sentences. The paragraph will include adjectives (describing words) to describe their Halloween costume.
Science: We started our new unit on Energy in Motion. We will be exploring magnets this week and learning about the different ways people use magnets. The children will also understand how to measure motion by using a board, some books, a meter stick and a toy truck!!

Our school wide parade will be outside. Please send your child’s costume in a bag (please be sure that he/she will be able to put it on, independently-no accessories, please!). We will not be passing out goody bags as per a school-wide decision. Our classroom helpers are planning a fabulous party with games and treats!
