Riadi Reader: Weekly News from Our Class (October 1- October 5)

Congratulations to our class. We filled the marble jar!

Math: This week in math, we will continue to work on subtraction strategies including fact families up to 18. The children will write different names for the same number. The children are doing really well with our “Mad Minute”. We will continue to have our timed tests every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Look for the practice sheet in your child’s folder!

Spelling: This week’s spelling list will be a review of our first unit’s words. Blue sheets are due on Friday. Please be sure that your child writes his/her name on the papers and staple them to the blue sheet, if possible. Thank you!

Reading/Language Arts: We will be finishing up and reviewing our first theme. We will work on making connections and comparing all three stories we have read. We will also read and will compare and contrast George and Martha Round and Round and Hippos by using a Venn diagram. We will also be reviewing homophones, synonyms, sentence structure and verbs.

Social Studies: We will be finishing our unit on communities this week. The children will visit the computer lab to research facts about Illinois. We will then review on Wednesday and the test for this chapter will be on Thursday.
