Riadi Reader: Weekly News From Our Class (September 24-28)

Math: We will begin chapter 2 this week. We will learn about subtraction strategies including counting back, using addition to subtract and using doubles to subtract. We will also work on problem solving.
Spelling: This week’s spelling words will go along with our story of the week. The list includes words that follow the CVCe (consonant, vowel, consonant, e) pattern. Blue sheets are due on Friday. Please be sure that your child writes his/her name on the papers and staple them to the blue sheet, if possible. Thank you!
Reading/Language Arts: We will be reading a story called Mrs. Brown Went to Town by Wong Herbert Ye. It is a story about Mrs. Brown who goes to the hospital and while she is away life changes for the animals. We will discuss and use the strategies of predicting and inferring. We will also be discussing action words (verbs). We will review parts of a sentence (subject and predicate).
Social Studies: This week we will review the different types of communities (rural, suburban, and urban). The children will also be able to locate communities, states and countries on a map. They will also be able to identify state and national symbols. The children will be able to use their map skills to make their own maps.
