Math: This week we will be focusing on the concept of addition. The children will be introduced to the concept of addends. We will begin to practice our math facts this week as well. I encourage them to practice them at home also.
Spelling: This week’s spelling words go along with our story for the week. They are words that have the short “a” sound and the short “i” sound. Please practice them at home. Practice makes perfect!!
Reading: This week’s story is called “Dragon Gets By”. It is about a dragon that needs to go shopping for food because his cupboards are bare. But, Dragon runs into a problem when all the food he bought does not fit in his car! Ask your child how Dragon tries to solve his problem by summarizing the story.
Language Arts: We will be working on words that have the short “a” and short “i” sound. The children will also be working on understanding the concept of sentence writing.
Social Studies: The children have started working in their “Map Skills” books. We will be working on map skills for the next week or so. We have been reviewing maps and globes and we will move on to understanding how to read a map and a map key.
