Graduation Day!


Graduation Day is coming!!

We have practiced for graduation.  Next week the kindergarten students have school only on Monday and Tuesday .  On Tuesday, they will be allowed to leave with you after graduation.  They will bring their final report card and registration packets home that day, so please continue to send their folder and backpack next week. 


Can't Believe It's Over!
It's been a fabulous year!  The kids have grown up and learned so much.  I could not have asked for a better group of students and families.  I appreciate all of the support that you have given me this year. It has been a pleasure to get to know all your children and I'm sure that they will do a great job in first grade!

Over the summer...


Continue to practice letter sounds/names, writing and reading
Continue to write numbers, compare numbers, count to 100 by ones and tens
Continue to add and subtract

We will need to know 94 popcorn words by the end of kindergarten


POPCORN WORD PRACTICE!!!!!

I, a, it, in, like, see, big, my, up, run, is, but, can, am, did, not, we, me, on, at, on, ran, for, yes, and, little, so, go, no, the, you, down, he, she, one, come, soon, went, two, three, be, come, went, soon, get, help, now, our, out, will, must, have, here, into, that, this, new, whowhat, where, there, say, away, play, they, with, want, please, eat, came, make, ate, ride, was, saw, are, well, pretty, funny, under, fine, blue, yellow, red, pink, orange, black, brown, purple, all 

Some ideas to do with popcorn words: write them in shaving cream, rainbow write, write them in rice, use magnet letters to spell the words, stamp out the word using letter stamps, play memory using the words (you will need to make two sets of each word in order to play), write using chalk, find the words in books or magazines, use letter stencils to make the words, use play dough to make the words. These are all ways to help reinforce these popcorn words.

FOCUS and LISTEN...use your attent-o-scope!!! We need to use our eyes, ears and brain when we focus attention on something. We say "Eyes are watching. Ears are listening. Bodies still. Voices off. Or Mrs. Riadi rings the bell. Or we say attent-o-scope. These are all ways we remember that it's time to FOCUS and LISTEN.

Mrs. Will visited our classroom and talked to the students about "good ideas" and "bad ideas". 




POSITIVE BEHAVIOR!!!

Our Good Job PAWS BIN!

Every Wednesday I will be picking three names out of the Paw Jar. These three students will be able to choose a prize from our GOOD JOB PAWS BIN! The more paws they earn the more of a chance they have of getting picked! Ask your son/daughter how he/she can earn paws!

In order to maintain a positive atmosphere at this age, we need to constantly reinforce expected behavior; therefore, I'm asking for your help to build a classroom treasure chest. I am looking for small items such as stickers, pencils, erasers, small toys (McDonald's Happy Meal toys), items that five/six years would be excited to get!

The last couple of weeks we have enjoyed the book Listen Buddy and we wrote about how e listen by finishing the sentence I listen when...We also reviewed some of the poems in our poetry folder.  We enjoyed a Weekly Reader called Do Lizards Wear Sunscreen?  We talked about the importance of sunscreen.  We also enjoyed the book How Do You Hug a Porcupine.  We came up with some ideas that were not mentioned in the book.  Ask your child what the best way is to hug a porcupine.  We enjoyed the book My Very Own Octopus.  We brainstormed other ways we could use our very own octopus.   We worked on a Memory Book and signed autographs.  We also practiced for graduation.

This week for math, we reviewed 3-D shapes (sphere, cube, cylinder and cone).   We read our 3-D Shape book and they were sent home with the 2-D Shape book we made at the beginning of the year.  We continued to use Touch Math to add. We used our strategies include our fingers, counters and pictures during the week to add and/or subtract. 

We continued to count to 100 by 1's and 10's

Please continue to practice addition and subtraction at home.
